Start 'em Young: Discover our Bubblemakers Program

Feeling completely comfortable underwater is the greatest gift you can give a child. Bubbleamakers allows them to slowly be introduced to scuba, so when it comes time for certification they are not coming from a place of fear and uncertainty.

Few things are more rewarding than seeing a child take their 1st breaths underwater. Free of fear and full of curiosity, children typically embrace the sport of scuba diving much quicker than adults. Their eyes become wide open - both literally and figuratively - as they experience the weightlessness and freedom of diving.

Setting up for a Bubblemakers class for a group of 13 kids at a private club. We bring and assemble all the gear, so the kids can jump right in and have fun!

One of my 1st professional assignments with the Kyalami Scuba Club was also one of my most memorable ones - an underwater birthday party at a private residence. Maddie was turning 11 and was about to get scuba certified, and wanted to share the magic of diving with her family and friends. Her birthday was the perfect occasion to show everyone just how amazing and transformative this activity is! Her dad was a former diver, and you could feel his pride and enthusiasm regarding his daughter’s decision.

Once we were fully set-up and in the water, dad joined in on the fun. We think he had just as much fun as the kids!

For our PADI Bubblemakers course, there are only a couple requirements; the child needs to be at least 8 years old and fairly comfortable in the water. We don’t take them any deeper than 6ft, so most pools make for acceptable training grounds. During the class they will be introduced to the basics of breathing with scuba and will also get to try out all the equipment. They will don BCDs with tanks, breathe out of regulators and learn how to clear their mask.

Children learn through play and exploration.

If your child is already comfortable in the pool, the transition to Bubblemakers will be seamless.

Since our emphasis is always on safety, we take the time to weave in several practical lessons on diving. However, the kids are usually just excited to experience staying and playing underwater. To keep the class lighthearted and fun, we will also bring toys and will play games underwater with the children. The greatest aspect of this course is that it opens up the child to possibilities and helps them feel comfortable in the water so that when it comes time for that to get certified, they aren’t entering that process with fear and uncertainty.

Diving is an activity that can open up a whole new world for our children - one of exploration, discovery and adventure. Why not take the next step and call us about a Bubblemakers class today - it makes a perfect gift for the little aquaphile in your life. And I personally can’t think of a greater present to give to a child than the gift of confidence and capability in the water.

Safe Diving,

Grace

Me in the pool during my 1st Bubblemakers course. It was so rewarding and I was surprised to see how easily the kids all got the hang of it! Now it’s one of my favorite programs to be a part of with The Kyalami Scuba Club.
